About the Origin of PARCnassau
n April of 2000, 24 park advocacy or user groups met in the community room in Wantagh Park in rsponse to the continuing deterioration of the nassau county park system. We formed a coalition to exhange ideas, information and to act in concert to lobby county government to protect residents right's to low cost family recreation in the county park facilities that were bought, developed and maintained with public tax monies. By 2003 we have grown to 130 organizations with a combined membership of over 250,000 county residents. While each member organization may have its own agenda, all are committed to an adequately funded and staffed county park system.
